About Speranza22
Speranza22 (S22) is an international invitational rugby team that has in a short period of time built up an enviable reputation on the International Invitational 7s circuit.
How It Started
In 2009 a unique group of rugby players from the Abu Dhabi Harlequins won the Dubai 7s U18s tournament. One of the players was Marco Speranza, a talented young Argentinian player, who was integral to the team's success. After school Marco remained in Abu Dhabi playing for Abu Dhabi Harlequins 1st XV until he returned to his native Argentina in 2012. In February 2013 Marco was tragically killed in a plane crash at the very young age of 20. In December 2013 Marco’s original team mates from 2009 came together and entered the Dubai7s International Open Tournament to play in his memory and Speranza 22 was born.
Marco does not just belong to my family but to everyone of you who are taking his name and number throughout the world. I don’t know how to teach someone to overcome the loss of a son, but definitely what you are doing is tender to our souls!

How It Is Going
Over the past 10 years Speranza22 has become synonymous for excellence, both on and off the pitch, with the goal to build an outstanding invitational 7s team for our charities, sponsors and wider family. We do everything by Marco’s simple philosophy:
‘The most important things in life are those that you do from the bottom of your heart’
We ensure everything we do is done to the best of our ability whilst ensuring we always have a smile on our face; the Marco way.
It is not just about the rugby but about being as successful off the pitch as we are on it. As a result, over the last 10 years we have raised in excess of £65,000 for various charities and good causes, something we are passionate about continuing.
We will always ensure that Marco’s legacy, through rugby and supporting good causes, continues. Who would have thought a group of mates, throwing a ball around, could achieve so much.
Collectively, S22 is so much more than an invitational rugby 7s team, it is a legacy, a special rugby family.
The Name
In 2009 the young U19 players were allowed to choose their own numbers on their shirts for the Dubai 7s. Marco chose 22 as his birthday was the 22nd September. Our name is Marcos shirt number from 2009 and his surname - Speranza22
